As a librarian I have many items to show you. This time I’d like to show you one of my favorite items in the AUP Library, it is a large three-volume set from our special collections.

McKenney, Thomas L. and Hall, James. History of the Indian Tribes of North America: with Biographical Sketches and Anecdotes of the Principal Chiefs. Philadelphia: E. C. Biddle, 1836.

This XIX-century work is embellished with one hundred and twenty portraits from the Indian Gallery at the Department of War, in Washington. We have the privilege of having this item which previously belonged to the American Library in Paris. Other copies of the same work have been featured in old and rare book exhibits internationally. One of them was featured by the Parisian Librairie Clavreuil during the last the Fine Arts Paris et la Biennale this month of November. Newer and smaller editions of the same work have been published during the XX century. Art History professors, like Madeleine Beaufort, have used this work during their classes to illustrate the beauty of the North American portraits. I have the pleasure of sharing with you a few images of this work.  Our copies are a bit damaged and need conservation, for that reason these items do not circulate nor can they be on display, but special consultations with a library staff may be arranged for book lovers.
