The George and Irina Schaeffer Center for the Study of Genocide, Human Rights and Conflict Prevention

Since the creation of the Schaeffer Center, in 2016, the collaboration between the library and the center is facilitating the access to the resource Visual History Archive (VHA) to the AUP community.
The VHA platform is an invaluable resource giving access to over 55,000 testimonies of survivors and witnesses of genocide, crimes against humanity, and related persecution.

Today, the partnership between us has led to enriching the library collection with new resources such as books, access to the database Fortunoff, and the creation of a page about "Holocaust and Genocide".

The Schaeffer Center is also engaged in the AUP Community by offering fellowships and grants to students, faculty, and staff members.

Fellowship Spring 2025

If you are interested in understanding and studying mass violence, or in contributing in coexistence, human rights and conflict resolution, this may be of interest to you. The center funds a wide range of proposals for research on the roots of hatred and discrimination, genocide and mass violence, their causes and consequences, conflict prevention and resolution, dialogue, and peace.

AUP students (both undergraduate and graduate) from all disciplines are welcome to apply to support research, curricular development, research travel, and internships as well as for developing innovative strategies for disseminating findings and communicating with the public.

The Center is especially interested in creative faculty-student collaborative research projects.

Applications for this semester are due on the 14th of February (the Center accepts submissions twice a year and the following session will be in October 2025).

For more information and to apply, please visit the Center webpage: Fellowships and Grants | The American University of Paris
