Internet Explorer 6 defaults to a higher level of
security for cookies than the databases can accept. To change this:
The Low setting still restricts some cookies -- those
that provide personal information and those that don't have a compact privacy
policy. If you are asked to accept a
certificate when you log in to a database, click Yes and then continue to the
database. This is a result of the update to the proxy server software. Since
EZProxy now supports Secure Socket Layers, you may be asked to accept a
certificate at sites that use SSL. Minimize AOL (don't close it), open Internet Explorer, Firefox or
Netscape, and try going directly to the library's homepage.

Netscape Cache Cookies You have a pop-up blocker, personal
firewall or ad blocker on your computer Disable the pop-up blocker while you
are using our databases. You can always go back and enable it again for
general Internet use. For personal firewall software, such as Norton
Security, make sure that cookie blocking is set to "none" and that the browser
privacy box is unchecked. You can always go back and recheck these later.
Ad blocking software may have settings that block
cookies. Set the program not to block cookies. Error
message: "Error has occurred in script on this page."
If you get this error, check another library database
such as EBSCO, InfoTrac or FirstSearch. If you can use these, the problem most
likely lies in the fact that you either don't have Java enabled on your
machine or else you have an older browser. To check if Java is enabled: If there is no place to change these settings, you may
have an older browser or you need to download Java. To update Netscape go to

set a cookie If you get a message that IE has rejected or refused
to set a cookie, you will also see this privacy icon at the bottom of your
screen: . If you double-click that icon, it shows web sites where cookies were
recently rejected. You can then double-click on the site and get the option to
select "allow this site to use cookies." If you select that and click OK, then
reattempt the login, it should clear the cookie issue. Message that a line must be added to
the ezproxy.cfg file If you receive the following message: "To allow /connect?session to work, your EZproxy
administrator must first authorize this within the ezproxy.cfg file. Host xxx.yyy.com The EZproxy server must then be restarted to make this
change take effect. " The proxy software has not been configured for this
particular database or journal. Send an email to

Include the name of the journal or the database you were trying to access. Having Trouble with PDF Files Internet Explorer 5 (or above) sometimes has problems
using Adobe Acrobat 4. You can either upgrade your version of Acrobat Reader
at
http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html or you can set Adobe
to be used by IE by following these steps: Firewalls
at the remote user's site Most ISPs do not limit the areas their users can
access on the Internet, so home users do not tend to encounter problems with
firewalls. However, corporate sites often do employ firewalls and may be
highly restrictive in what their employees can access. If you provide content
for a given corporate site, the corporate site may be willing to open access
through their firewall to your EZproxy server. However, if a corporate site
refuses to open access, your users will not be able to access EZproxy.
It's important to understand that corporate firewall
restrictions are not unique to EZproxy, but are actually encountered when
implementing any proxy server solution for remote access. "Attempt to authenticate to
